Gillian Anderson may have unknowingly revealed one of the secrets to her success during an interview about her experience on the the popular television show 'Top Gear'. The show gives celebrities the opportunity to drive a reasonably priced car as fast as they want around an oval and she performed admirably even though she started off a little slow at the beginning according to one of the hosts, the irascible Jeremy Clarkson.
However, one of the most interesting pieces of information that ex-'X-Files' star disclosed during her appearance on the show following her racing experience was that she is not only a lover of speed but she is also a bit of a control freak. She showed how much of a 'control freak' she is when it was revealed that she dispensed with having herself be chauffeur driven to the 'Star in a Reasonably Priced car challenge that takes place in Surrey, England and instead drove herself, something only three other guests have done: Simon Cowell, Sherlock Holmes actor Benedict Cumberbatch and legendary actor Michael Gambon (Radio Times - March 2).
She admitted that she is a control freak and that she drives everywhere which similar to her other colleagues who did the same gives a little bit of insight into who she is as a person, one who likes to be in control of where she is going and how she gets to her location.
It also might explain why she was able to rise from the pack of actors in Hollywood and distinguish herself as not only one of the most attractive but one of the most talented actors in Tinsletown. Similar to Simon Cowell and actor Benedict Cumberbatch, being able to control her emotions and the environment she places herself in might be one of the reasons she is able to perform at a level that very few other actors can even conceive of duplicating as she has shown in her television show 'Hannibal' and will be showing in the future on the reboot of 'The X-Files' in 2016 (but not on a full-time basis).
Gillian Anderson, an exceptionally talented actress whose 'control' issues might be part of the reason why she has been so successful as an actress. Something to think about for young actors who might complain that there agents led them down the 'wrong' career direction.
